1970 Ford LTD Wagon Derby Car Painting

Description

Her'es My Latest Painting. It's an action themed painting of your typical early 1990s state fair demolition derby. Why did I choose to set the piece in the year 1991? Because the early 90s is when late 1960s and early 1970s cars were in widespread use in derbys north america wide. The cars featured here in this painting are a 1970 Ford LTD Wagon named "Dr. Damage", a 1968 Chrysler New Yorker labeled as "smash Patrol", and a 1971 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser labeled as "Vista-Crusher". In my opinion, as much as I hate to see 70s cars go to waste in this day in age, I've gotta say that early 70s cars made the best derby cars, because of their land barge-like size, and the durability of the steel that covered these body on frame tank like land yachts. Great artwork. It captures a time lost on the actual sport/hobby of derbies today where high $ motors and '80+ Fords dominate. The old iron cars made for the best shows as they bent, groaned, smoked and crashed their way to glory.
