The Life Story Of A 1970 Chevy Chevelle (Part 9 of 42) July 11th, 1977 Odessa, Texas. Lloyd drives home in the beautiful west Texas sunset after a long day of maintenance work on the sprawling fields of oil pump jacks on the outskirts of town. He was making more money in the oil industry than he could have ever imagined at his previous steel working job back in Cincinnati about a year and a half ago. The "Texas tea" is in the ground in very high demand during this oil crisis, and Lloyd and his colleagues were payed a fortune to make sure it was drilled out of there in the fastest manor possible. The long hours were strenuous at first, but in no time, it became just "another day at the office" for Lloyd. His Chevy Chevelle however was not adapting to the work environment that was present at Lloyd's new career. It was a job where pickup trucks dominated in the workforce for obvious utilitarian reasons, but also because many of the roads amongst the oil fields were far from adequate for a low profile muscle car like the Chevelle. Because of this, Lloyd had acquired a few dents, dings and scratches on the car, and now realized that his beloved Chevelle SS was no longer germane for the tasks at hand. He would have to make a hard choice to either sell his car and get a truck, or slowly watch his Chevelle rattle itself to pieces on the desert back roads. Story to be continued...
