1969 Dodge Charger Daytona In The Rain (painting) by FastLaneIllustration 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona In The Rain (painting) by FastLaneIllustration
Here's My Latest Painting. It's a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona speeding down a small roadway on the western outskirts of Denver Colorado. This was an extremely fun piece to make, because it allowed me to experiment with new ideas. Ideas such as the illumination of the scene by the headlights of the car. This piece also helped me flex my rain and lightning "muscles", which is a thematic element that I don't often include in my work. Overall, I'm very happy with the outcome of this painting, and feel better now that I finally have a long overdue Dodge Daytona in my painting collection. Beautiful! I almost bought one of these many years ago for $3k, but I passed because I didn't think I could afford the gas! It was lime green and had the 426 Hemi; no rust, but the paint had dulled and faded. In 1999, I saw one of these for sale in much worse condition for US$80k; talk about your missed opportunities.

If memory serves me well, it would have been 1981 or possibly '82. The seller was leaving for Germany with the CAF and the car was in his parents garage, and they wanted it out before he left. I didn't end up owning my own car until 1987!

yeah. I envy those who bought rare 60s and 70s muscle cars in the 80s for dirt cheap. It was a time where you could get even the rarest muscle cars for dirt cheap, because they weren't new, and they weren't antique... they were just "used" and viewed as "junk". damn I'd love to visit a junkyard during the early 80s... imagine how many rare gems could be unearthed in there.

I hear you :-) A buddy of mine answered an add for "1970 Chevrolet 2 door, $300.00." He called and it was a Corvette, it had belonged to the old woman's son who was killed in Vietnam. By the time he got there someone else had already driven it away.

The rain affect in this is awesome. I really love the way you did the water on the road and how it splashes up under the tires. The lighting is really great too.
